Album Review: The Lonely Island - Turleneck and Chain

By: Clay

Not only is this album funny, it's also extremely good. The songs are well written, or improvised and the guest list does an excellent job skewering their own genre. Every track on this album is better than their grammy nominated single "I'm on a Boat" from their debut album, Incredibad. I don't know what else to say. It's a Fair Warning album of the year nominee with Foo Fighter's "Wasting Light". That's some stiff competition. Now enjoy "I Just Had Sex".

Fair Warning's Top Video Series: Middle Class Rut

Album Review: American Bang's American Bang

What Kings of Leon laid the foundation for, American Bang has built on and actually done it better than KOL on their first two albums. Upon first and even second and third listenings, one gets the impression that American Bang is just some kid brother band to KOL, much like Hoobastank was to Incubus before they just started to plain suck(The Reason). But, after a few listens, you can really hear how different American Bang is to Kings of Leon. The songs on their self titled album span all over the rock spectrum with ballads that aren't that ballad-y, arena sing-alongs, just-outta-high-school-weekend-drinking anthems, and perfect little ditties that blend rock with just a touch of country twang to keep listeners hooked and not annoyed with their best (insert typical country singer) impersonation.

American Bang also doesn't feature that glossy production feel. No four minute long guitar solos, sound effect intros or monotonous instrumental keyboard jams with hidden meanings. It isn't showy or depressing or violent or political. It's just a classic 45 minute rock record. Three and half to four minute songs with catchy choruses and memorable guitar riffs.

I think Tom Petty said it best when he said, "Don't bore us, get to the chorus".

By: Clay

Wow. Thank you for that. In case you missed some of these miracles, here are some select lyrical choices from two of the "World's Greatest Wordsmiths"(NOT).

Look at the mountains trees the seven seas, and everything chillin under water please, hot lava, snow, rain and fog, long neck giraffes, pet cats and dogs

Niagara falls and the pyramids, everything you believed in as kids, fuckin rainbows after it rains, there's enough miracles here to blow your brain

I've seen miracles all around me, stop and look around its all astounding, water, fire air and dirt, fucking magnets, how do they work? I don't want to talk to a scientist, ya'll MF lying and getting me pissed

Are you a believer in miracles? (Magic every in this bitch, it's all around you and you don't even know it.) Do you notice and recognize miracles? It's just there in the air, are you a believer in miracles? (Pure motherfucking magic, this shit will blow your MF mind.)

They did, however, miss one miracle. They are allowed to make music.
